Competition: The Next Designer Wallpaper Collection

Here at Wallsauce, we are forever building our vast collection of mural designs. The aim? To ensure you guys have the best choice of wallpaper murals to suit your style – whatever it may be!

You might have noticed our designer wallpaper collection. It hosts a range of talented photographers, illustrators and graphic designers from around the world. Now, they may not be the most well-known creators out there, but we have carefully enlisted them based solely on their skills and whether their designs can be transferred as made-to-measure wall murals.

Looking for this undiscovered and special talent can be tricky, especially as there are so many wonderful artists out there! That’s why we’ve teamed up with Rise Design and Shine, to run this competition.

Rise Design and Shine is a community hub for artists that teaches, inspires and directs those looking to achieve their business goals. With its connection to a whole range of artists, we thought it would be the perfect companion to run a competition for our next designer wallpaper collection.

The brief: Nature calling

Having sold thousands of murals to a variety of customers and businesses over six years, we’d like to (at least) think we know a thing or two about wall murals. Taking our years of knowledge in what really works to fill a wall, we created the brief for the next designer wallpaper collection.

All we asked from the artists were:

• Design two murals based on the theme of nature

• Both designs have to relate to each other

• The two designs will both feature in the winning collection

• Bear in mind, you’re designing something that will look great on all shaped walls

Of course, we wouldn’t ask for all of this without a reward! The winner will receive an agreement with us and earn on any sales from their collection.

The artists

1. Andrea Haase

"With a diploma in interior design (which in Germany is more of an engineering degree but something about design) I wanted to be more creative. So I went back to what I have always loved to do: creating paintings, illustrations and soon also photos. Trying to find my way, I was travelling and working all over the world for almost 10 years, then I spent a while in the exciting city of Berlin.

Today I live and work in the very north of Germany, close to the Baltic Sea as an author as well as for several companies in the wall art and homeware industry. My style is versatile I love to combine all kinds of different techniques and dictions in my work."

2. Bryony Halsted

Bryony lives in rural Staffordshire and studied Illustration and Visual Communication at Wolverhampton and BCU in the UK. Her work has always been textural, and hand finished, using lots of drawing and collage. All designs start from small pencil studies and sketchbook explorations, usually involving elements of carefully arranged paper scraps which she likes to save and incorporate. Constant inspiration comes from her love of the British countryside, and from the glorious array of flowers in her parent’s garden.

Her mural florals have their origin here. Other influences come from her interest in history and archaeology.

3. Danielle Nelisse

Danielle Nelisse is an Artist, Private Investigator, and Immigration Attorney. Known for her adventurous spirit both in life and on the canvas, Nelisse takes risks with her art, often experimenting with vivid colours.

Nelisse’s painting series, entitled “Wildfires,” was inspired when nine wildfires simultaneously surrounded her art studio in Southern California. While she stood in her art studio creating the first paintings on two canvases side-by-side, the sky became dark with charred ash and her family members checked in over the phone to make sure she was well. The massive wildfires were fed for days by hot Santa Ana winds that blew in from the desert. To date, she has completed nine wildfires paintings and luckily she hasn’t been ordered to evacuate her art studio – at least not yet.

4. Jackie Tahara

Jackie Tahara, the founder of UnBlink Studio, is a surface pattern designer living in beautiful Victoria, Canada, where she is happily surrounded by mountains, forests, beaches and the Pacific Ocean. Her work is inspired by her natural surroundings, retro design of the 50s, 60s and 70s, Scandinavian design, and everything she experiences throughout her extensive international travels.

Because Jackie wanted her wall mural designs to transform a child’s room into a magical fantasy landscape, she filled “Butterfly Garden” with fluttering butterflies and folk-inspired flowers, and “Rainbow Floral” with fantasy stripes and perky blooms, both in bright, warm and sunny colours. Sweet dreams!

5. Kate England

"I create colourful, expressive, and vibrant illustrations drawing inspiration from the Scandinavian design of the 1950s, mythology, maps, my childhood memories, technology, folk art, and the magical world of nature. My signature style combines clean graphics with textures and soft, moody shades of colour. I currently spend my time between Stockholm and London."

6. Katy Clemmans

Katy Clemmans is a designer with many hats - she is a BAFTA-nominated graphic designer with years of experience designing and animating for TV both in the UK and around the world. She is a licensed photographer, and Katy also produces designs for print - botanical illustrations and patterns being amongst her favourite subjects.

Katy’s designs for Wallsauce feature beautiful and delicate floral motifs woven with vibrant and dramatic watercolour washes and details, creating unique statement wall coverings. The combination of organic textures and graphic silhouettes offer a fresh take on the classic ‘nature’ theme.

7. Kelly Kratzing

"Hello! I am an Australian surface pattern designer with a love for creating sophisticated, intricate designs for the home decor, wall art, and stationery markets. I create each artwork by hand from my home studio using Prismacolor pencils, watercolours and fine ink pens. I take inspiration from everything around me, but I have a real passion for nature, especially the unique Australian fauna and flora.

I hope that these designs capture both the subtlety of nature and its extravagance and that they integrate beautifully into your home and draw you in with the details."

8. Lori Perez

"Greetings! My name is Lori Perez. I went from being a high school teacher to a surface pattern designer after almost ten years of teaching to quench my love for painting. I enjoy using just about every painting medium but my favourites are pigment oil sticks and watercolour. My art is influenced by all things that blossom and grow and my Guamanian heritage.

My submissions are marked with a combination of the wonders of growth and movement captured in flowers and butterflies; an Oceanic tribal feel of nature and the miracle and propagation of life."

9. Neelam Kaur

Based in the capital city of India, New Delhi, Neelam is a surface pattern designer/ illustrator who loves creating repeat patterns and illustrations for kids and stationary lines including greeting cards.

"These designs are inspired by the tropical lush jungle. I was born and brought up in the lush tropical part in Assam in India, and I had been inspired by the similar set of colours palettes, and mostly greens and pink as they are my favourite colours and I do feel it resonates with fresh nature as well."

10. Tenyo Marchev

"I'm a self-taught graphic artist. I started as a graphic designer in 2010 but the most of my fans told me I am not only designer, I am an artist and that is the reason I try to make art, digital works and I have great success in both areas. My goal is to create something different, eye-catching and to make people happy."

11. Uta Krogmann

Uta Krogmann is an illustrator, surface designer and graphic designer based in Germany. She was taken to art school as a kid and never stopped to explore everything creative she could lay hands on. Being trained as a graphic designer she devised elaborate window displays for streetwear brands. Her passion for illustration led her to focus on patterns for home decor and stationary as well as books for kids and adults.

For this luscious collection of wallpaper, she drew her inspiration from the great variety of foliage and flowers in a rain forest and the rich fauna that can be found there. The mood is mystical and enchanted.

12. Yani Mengoni

"My name is Yani Mengoni and I’m a freelance surface pattern designer and Illustrator. I'm originally from Argentina but now living in Australia with my husband and 3 children. Ever since I can remember I’ve loved to draw. My Designs are always created by hand before adding colors in illustrator or photoshop. Most days I can be found at my desk happily drawing pictures. I like my work to be part of telling a story.

My "Soul Birds Collection" is about Bird Symbolism & Meanings. I am open to commissions, collaborations and licensing opportunities."

13. Michael Zindell

As a professional designer, Michael has had the privilege to design varied items for home and personal use. The scope of his work grants exploration of many materials and forms, but his favourite aspect of design is “impact”. He enjoys making things that delight the everyday person with “WOW moment.

“The process of creating has always been my escape, like going to a foreign place, able to explore and see things with a new perspective. With this series of murals I want to pass that escapism on, with imagery based in nature, but through the lens of fantasy and wonder”.
