Interior Design Colours: Trends to Watch in 2025

From bold biophilia to complete colour drenching, the application of colour is set to be a game-changer in 2025. Next year's interior design colours are drawn from nature while blending neatly with today's high-tech homes.

As seen with our recent interior predictions for 2025 blog, an overarching theme is the fusion of technology and organic materials, with sensorial design being the key to transforming photogenic spaces into real, liveable homes.

Looking to update your decor? Here are the interior design colour trends 2025 has in store for us…

Golden honey and rich yellows

As reported by WGSN, Pantone's 'Honey Gold', a beautiful blend of amber and blonde tones, is set to be everywhere. Moreover, this hue is easy to use across every design style.

It can be instantly warming, transforming cold rooms into inviting spots where the whole family will want to spend their day. These tones encourage human connection, creating conversations and providing a place for relaxation.

If you love the cosy minimalism trend that is set to explode in the coming year, watch this space for golden tones and radiant yellows, as well as other warm hues that give you a sense of reassurance and comfort.

Sun-baked earthy hues

A big colour trend we have to discuss right now is colour drenching. This is where you apply the same colour everywhere to create a look of seamlessness. The finished effect is very deliberate, drenching everything from the walls and furniture to doors, ceilings and even radiators. How much you want to drench is up to you, but the idea is to create a bold but comfortable impact – and one of the best colours to try is earthy terracotta.

Reported by WGSN for 2025, Pantone's 'Burnt Sienna' reminds us of sun-baked Tuscan hillsides or the red clay houses of Mexico. This colour is all about creating a connection with the world around us, and colour drenching with earthy hues like this one supports the theme of sensory design. Adding texture and tactile elements to your space allows you to appeal to the senses through sight and touch.

Colour drenching is one of the hottest interior design colour trends 2025 has to bring. It's a great technique to reduce visual noise or make small rooms appear larger.

Moody blues/purples

Shifting over to the dark side, we now want to draw your attention to the WGSN and Coloro Colour of the Year – 'Future Dusk'. A dark, moody and intriguing hue that sits somewhere between blue and purple.

As well as being mysterious, this colour trend touches on the theme of transitions (such as dusk to dawn, or dark to light), making it ideal for next year's design story of change and connection. The colour also offers a sense of familiarity while feeling futuristic at the same time.

Considered one of the harder-to-execute interior design colours in 2025, 'Future Dusk' isn't for the faint-hearted. But there are a range of moody blues and purples you can experiment with if you're unsure. And while colour drenching with such an otherworldly hue just seems a stretch too far for those who like to play it safe, a feature wall could be a fantastic starting point.

Deep maroon and cherry

Think burgundy, but less formal. Mauve pink, but deeper and more saturated. Or wine, but less serious and grown-up. We can use Coloro's 'Cherry Lacquer' as our guide.

One of the more charming interior design colour trends 2025 has in store for us, 'Cherry Lacquer' is both seductive and playful at the same time, and is inspired by stories of resistance and rebellion. Dark and luxurious, this colour can instantly elevate any space. It also works well with design trends such as dark minimalism and more maximalist concepts where sophistication is key.

To make this colour pop, choose matte paint or wallpaper for your walls and contrast with lacquered, glazed or glossy finishes everywhere else. For those who dare, colour drenching can be a great way to create seamless flow and movement across multiple rooms or areas of the home.

Fun and calming retro blues

Next year's retro blue trend is about finding the right blues that project warmth, comfort and sentimentality. Pick a blue that has warmer undertones to avoid the space feeling cold – and if you decide to use more than one hue, opt for analogue colours that sit next to each other on the colour wheel. Alternatively, a tonal approach with various tints and shades, like this mural, can add interest and intrigue quickly and affordably.

There's something incredibly grounding about blue. It's steadfast and reliable. It's easy on the eye and calming. Plus, it helps to connect us to nature, which has become increasingly important in a world where homes are filled with smart technology and connected devices.

Vintage or retro blues can be explored in so many ways too. From block colours and painted wood panelling to oceanic murals or even delicate florals.

Biophilic interior design colours

Unwavering, like neutrals, the botanical trend is one that never gets old. There's a massive appetite for biophilia, with some of the most exciting interior design colour trends in 2025 being timeless greens.

Think greens across the spectrum, just as we witness in nature. Sage greens with a cool blue undertone, deep greens that remind us of a thriving virgin forest, and olive greens that add warmth and cosiness to any room.

Biophilic design doesn't just have to be one colour though. If you want to inject lots of colour into your home, floral walls are definitely worth exploring in the coming year. If you are specifically attracted to the shapes of nature, such as floral fractals and leaf patterns, the revival of traditional wallpaper could be the perfect way to include biophilia in the space, while staying on-trend with your colour palette.

For instance, our William Morris wall mural collection features a range of foliage-inspired designs in herbaceous green hues that will complement both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Which of these interior design colours inspires you the most? Let us know in the comments if you have any favourites from our interior design colour trends 2025…
